Back in 1989
When I was 11 years old, I watched “Do the Right Thing” for the first time.
So, you’re probably wondering, “Who the heck is TimFlix?”
And what’s Spike Lee got to do with it?
Well, first off, I don’t think I’m Spike Lee.
But on the other hand, I do think I’m just as creative and resourceful as he is.
Maybe even more.
News flash: I’ve never had multi-millions to bring my ideas to life.
The comparison I’m going to suggest is based on determination & content style.
You know how Spike Lee is basically the godfather of real, raw Black storytelling?
That’s me too.
Well, part of me. I produce many genres — I‘ll get to that later.
Spike Lee’s name is a brand.
Spikes Early Days
The guy's been flipping the script since his NYU days.
His first student film, The Answer, nearly got him booted because he dared to call out the racist history behind Birth of a Nation.
He’s always been unapologetic.
Lee went on to make game-changers like Do the Right Thing.
And one of my all time favorites, Malcolm X.
Not only did his movies entertain, but they also made you think.
He opened doors for Black voices and started conversations about race, identity, and justice.
Identity Crisis
So, where does TimFlix fit in?
Let me first answer this by saying that my name is really Tim Williams.
And honestly, don’t ever call me TimFlix.
[ Straight Face ]
The only reason I use that alias online is because my name is so common.
I needed a way for Google to connect all my content when people search for me.
That’s also why you see “Tim Williams Masterwork” plastered all over my Substack.
I’m pretty sure I spend more time on SEO than actually writing films.
I don’t know what’s worse, the name Tim Williams or John Doe.

But back to Spike Lee.
He’s maintained the same creative energy and fire for years.
There’s been plently of days I felt like giving up filmmaking, but it’s just in me.
And one day I will walk away from it. But for now, I’m inspired to share my stories.
A lot of that inspiration came from watching a “Spike Lee Joint.”
